It is the highest waterfall in Estonia – approximately 30 meters (98 feet) and is a striking natural attraction located on the northern coast of the country, near the town of Kohtla-Järve.
It is particularly captivating in spring when snow melt increases the water flow, and in winter when the falling water freezes into beautiful ice formations.
There is an observation platform that provides excellent views of the waterfall and the surrounding landscape, including the Gulf of Finland.
The waterfall is part of the Baltic Klint, a significant geological feature that runs from Sweden through Estonia to Russia. The cliffs provide a unique view of the layers of limestone and other sedimentary rocks.
While the waterfall is accessible year-round, the best times to visit are during the spring melt and winter freeze for the most dramatic views.
Close to Valaste Waterfall, visitors can also explore other attractions such as the industrial heritage sites of Kohtla-Nõmme Mining Museum and the unique landscape of the Alutaguse National Park.
