Plage de la Dune du Sud, located on the Magdalen Islands in Canada, is celebrated for its unique natural beauty and serene environment. This beach is renowned for its 18 to 22 kilometers of white sand, which contrasts beautifully with the red sandstone cliffs that flank it. This setting makes it one of the most picturesque beaches in the region, offering a tranquil escape for visitors.
At low tide, visitors can explore caves formed in the red cliffs, adding an adventurous element to the beach experience.
To get to Plage de la Dune du Sud on the Magdalen Islands, you’ll need to follow these steps:
Travel to the Magdalen Islands:
By Air – The most common way to reach the Magdalen Islands is by flying into the Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport (YGR). Air Canada, Pascan Aviation, and other regional airlines offer flights from Montreal, Quebec City, and other cities in Quebec.
By Sea – Although less common for tourists, there’s also a ferry service from Souris, Prince Edward Island, to Cap-aux-Meules on the Magdalen Islands. This option might be more scenic but requires more planning due to schedules and weather conditions.
Getting Around the Islands:
Once on the islands, you’ll need to get to Île du Havre aux Maisons where Plage de la Dune du Sud is located.
Car Rental – Renting a car is highly recommended as it gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. There are several car rental agencies at the airport or in Cap-aux-Meules.
Public Transport – There’s a local bus service called “Le Madelin’Express,” but it might not be as frequent or convenient for reaching all parts of the islands, especially remote beaches like Dune du Sud.
