Nyerere National Park is a national park located in Tanzania. Formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, it was renamed in 2019 in honor of Julius Nyerere, Tanzania’s first president. Nyerere National Park is one of the largest protected areas in Africa, covering an area of about 50,000 square kilometers (19,000 square miles). It is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including large populations of elephants, lions, African wild dogs, and other iconic African species. The park is also recognized for its pristine wilderness, with varied landscapes ranging from grassy plains to woodlands and wetlands, offering a habitat for a wide array of plant and animal life.
